At the age of 31 Robert's largest artery tore - the aorta. It would be four years to the day before the time-bomb in his chest would be surgically repaired.Three surgeries to re-construct most his aorta and over 19 years later Robert is a patient advocate for aortic health, passionate speaker, author, hospital volunteer with Mended Hearts, Inc. at Sentara Norfolk General's Heart Hospital and the founder of the National Organization for Aortic Awareness Foundation. His miraculous story of survival was featured in Ebony, Mended Hearts, and the Hampton Roads Magazines.
He has spoken at several medical conferences on aortic aneurysms and has been featured in the Mended Hearts Magazine.
He established the first aortic Health foundation that focuses on the entire aorta and raises public awareness of aortic health while providing hope for the effected and funding for genetic research. Through his foundation Robert works closely with the leading aortic experts sharing insights and experiences from a patient perspective.
Robert conducts free aortic health awareness presentations that include free blood pressure screenings. Robert is retired SCPO Coast Guardsman, an active member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 21 in Norfolk, VA. Mended Hearts, Inc., Toastmasters International, a steering committee member and featured patient for the Thoracic Aortic Disease Coalition (TADCO).
